This class will provide students with the opportunity to explore project-based themes through music, art, story, and movement, as well as science and humanities activities.

Major Units & Topics

Term 1 - Aquatic Life - Students will explore emotional awareness and self-regulation through the relaxation book series by Lori Lite that features ocean animals as the main characters. The themes in the stories will be expanded upon through mindfulness activities and games, instrument play, dance, science and humanities activities, and crafts.

Term 2 – Global Village - Students will explore world geography through music, dance, art, and foods. The daily regional themes will be expanded upon through stories, mindfulness activities and games, instrument play, dance, humanities activities, and crafts.

Term 3 - Biomes - Students will explore world climates and terrains. The daily themes will be expanded upon through stories, mindfulness activities and games, dramatic representation of weather and terrain through music and movement, instrument play, dance, science and humanities activities, and crafts.

Physical and Health Education

This class will provide students with the opportunity to explore all four strands of fine arts: music, visual art, drama, and dance. Students will spend time exploring both 2-D and 3-D visual art forms, work with a variety of media, such as pencil, watercolour, clay, and textiles. Through drama and music games, students will learn how to communicate ideas and express feelings and experiences through the arts. By learning traditional dances and songs, students explore a range of cultures as well as to adapt the skills learned to new contexts. Students will collaborate with one another, participating in games and activities aimed and learn the joy of taking creative risks within a safe and supported environment.

This French course for grades 5-7 will be using the exciting AIM program developed out of UBC. Students are expected to actively participate in a variety of individual, small group, and whole class activities including subject-related worksheets.

Using AIM will create an environment where the students will: Feel comfortable to express themselves in the target language from the first lesson; Learn vocabulary through visual, auditory and kinesthetic tools; Participate in all activities in the target language based on literature and drama; Learn to think and write creatively, while practicing oral communication; Be part of a “learning community” that emphasizes cooperative learning.

This program has a capacity of 15 students and will be hosted in Surrey.
