Second Languages

This French course for grades 5-7 will be using the exciting AIM program developed out of UBC. Students are expected to actively participate in a variety of individual, small group, and whole class activities including subject-related worksheets.

Using AIM will create an environment where the students will: Feel comfortable to express themselves in the target language from the first lesson; Learn vocabulary through visual, auditory and kinesthetic tools; Participate in all activities in the target language based on literature and drama; Learn to think and write creatively, while practicing oral communication; Be part of a “learning community” that emphasizes cooperative learning.

This program has a capacity of 15 students and will be hosted in Surrey.

Under the supervision and direction of a gym instructor, these students meet for one 75 minute gym class per week. This is a fantastic introduction to blended classes and a wonderful way to meet other TLA families and friends!

This course is an opportunity for students who school at home to interact with and learn visual art skills of drawing, painting and more with other students their age. Under the supervision and direction of an art instructor, these students meet for one 90 minute art class per week. This is a fantastic introduction to blended classes and a wonderful way to meet other TLA families and friends!

Students will create art work using a variety of art mediums such as watercolour paints, watercolour pencils, oil pastels, soft pastels, graphite, acrylic paints, repurposed/recyclable materials, and air-dry clay. They will learn about different artists and art techniques with an experienced art instructor and apply elements and principles of design in their 2D or 3D creations. Some art activities will have students using their imagination, creativity, and interests. Students will reflect on their learning by way of art journals and share their work by small group discussions and/or writing critiques.
