ROBERT DAVIDSON: A LINE THAT BENDS BUT DOES NOT BREAK

This exhibition celebrates one of Canada’s and the Haida nation’s national treasures, Guud sans glans Robert Davidson. Since the 1960s, he has been instrumental in the revival of Haida art and culture and is unquestionably one of that tradition’s most respected living artist.

This interactive tour will explore how Davidson’s deep knowledge of Haida design has allowed him to innovate from within that tradition, often drawing out and abstracting elements of shape, colour and line so that we can consider them closely and see them in new ways. By viewing Davidson’s prints, drawings and paintings, students will build visual literacy skills to begin to understand the conventions of the work, the histories and values that inform it, and the innovations it advances.

Students and parents will be able to explore the rest of the gallery after the workshop.
