“That’s Not Garbage”

Duration: 45 minutes – 1 hour
Location: Hartland Learning Centre
Does that really belong in the garbage? Many things that end up in Hartland Landfill can actually be diverted. This workshop teaches students about the 3Rs Hierarchy (reduce, reuse and recycle) and the benefits of diverting waste from the landfill. Students begin to develop an understanding of their role in the community and the broader world, including how we can all make a difference when it comes to what we throw away.

In this interactive workshop, students will be encouraged to dig deeper and get to the core of the matter. Using everyday items, sample rocks and minerals, students work individually and cooperatively to identify, characterize and locate the renewable and non-renewable resources in the objects we throw away. Discover our garbage has a history and the role we play in the protection of the environment and conservation of resources.

By Noon – all participants leave.
