Britannia Shipyard Boatbuilders School Program Fieldtrip

Field trip information:
This is a facilitated 90 minute in-person field trip experience at the Britannia Shipyards in Steveston.
In this program, students will:
- explore the Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site to learn about the history of boatbuilding and its importance in Steveston.
- explore the different steps to build a boat by participating in a tool scavenger hunt, a caulking demonstration, and more maritime-themed activities.
- These steps will then be applied to a boatbuilding activity, with each student making their own small wooden boat to bring home.
- The program will be adapted to accommodate children in various age groups and our group may be split into two groups depending on the number who register.
When: Wednesday, June 12, 2024 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Where: Britannia Shipyards, located at 5180 Westwater Drive to the east of Steveston Village.
Cost:
- $8.00 for all school-age participants, and all younger siblings who wish to build a boat (they can accommodate children 3 and up with a parent to help.)
- Adult chaperones enjoy the program at no extra charge.
Adult Leaders, Attendants and Chaperones
- Leaders, attendants and chaperones are expected to support participants during program activities.
- Chaperones are also responsible for group and individual participant behaviour.
- Please review TLA’s Field Trip Policy and share the expectations with your children.
- Individuals not respecting our code of conduct will be asked to leave the group and a parent will be required to remain with them until the time of departure.
