Are you ready to make your writing stand out? This “Enhancing Voice in Students’ Writing” workshop for grades 4-9 helps students find their unique voice with easy, quick tips and fun tricks! In just five sessions, students will learn how to add personality and flair to every sentence. Students will learn how to use vivid details, strong verbs, and lively dialogue to express themselves clearly and confidently. Whether the tricks are used in writing short stories, essays, or poetry, this class will help them engage readers every time they write!
The first four sessions will begin with an interactive writing activity to get our writing juices flowing. Next, students will be introduced to a couple of writing tricks that have simple guidelines and easy to follow rules. Students will be provided with some examples of what the tricks look like in practice. Then, students will have the opportunity to practice writing the tricks on their own with topic prompts.
We’ll break for lunch and to socialize (30-40mins).
After the break, students will pair up with another student to share their examples. We’ll come back as a whole group to share and discuss the tricks we have learned. Finally, we’ll end the day’s session with a game and some more socializing.
The final session will focus on the students using all the tricks they have learned and practiced to compose a composition on a chosen topic.
**Students will be required to bring a writing utensil, a notebook (or laptop), a quick lunch, a water bottle, a creative mind, and an open heart 😀**
