Computer gaming is now a multi-billion dollar industry, but it got its start in the most BASIC way possible: with BASIC computer games!
This will be a “let’s play” style class structured around some of the most famous early computer games ever made, many of them precursors of some of the main computer game genres that are popular today – all of which were written in what was perhaps the original “open source” programming language: Beginners’ All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code, otherwise known as BASIC.
While not a programming class, per se, this class will be designed to inspire an appreciation of programming by covering some of the basics of programming in BASIC. If students are interested, a final project of writing and refining and sharing an original BASIC game of their own can be attempted.
Suitable for students who like to read in Grades 7 and up.
