SUMMARY:Fraser River Discovery Center - The Trading Trail
DESCRIPTION:Field trip information:  \n\n\nThe Fraser River is one of the world’s great rivers not only in its contribution to the environmental\, cultural\, and historical wealth of British Columbia\, but because of its current pivotal role in the economy of BC.  We are going to explore how people have used and shared the resources of the Fraser River\, focusing on the historical time when Indigenous peoples and fur traders shared the river. \nProgram Components: \n\nVisual presentation introducing the history of trade on the Fraser River.\nLearn proper archaeological protocol\, excavate archaeological artifacts\, and learn what each represents.\nKeep an archaeologist’s journal\, drawing diagrams and answering questions about stone and metal tools.\nPlay a fun and competitive game to understand the value of items traded between First Nations and European traders.\n\nClick here to see how this program supports BC’s curriculum. \nClick here for pre- and post-trip activities. \n\n\n  \n\nWhen:  \nFriday\, April 10 – 10:00 – 11:30 am  \nSign-up deadline: \nFriday\, March 13th \n\nMaximum participants – 30 students\n\nGrade level:\n\nThe program is aimed at students in Grades 4 – 7.  Younger siblings may join the group as paying participants\, (see below).\n\nWhere: Fraser River Discover Center\, New Westminster\, B.C.\n\nCost:\n\n\n$9 for all participants ages 4 and up\n$5 per adult\n\n\n\nContact Person/Information: Mrs. Maureen Krump\, mkrump@schoolathome.ca\, 1-800-745-1320 ext 354
