DESCRIPTION:Explore the future of genomics with a tour of Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Science Centre.  Geneskool® and Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre are collaborating to provide a unique opportunity for students to tour an internationally renowned genomics\, proteomics and bioinformatics facility. \nStudents will see how researchers are developing and deploying cutting edge technologies to prevent and diagnose cancer and other diseases. A hands-on Geneskool workshop helps to reinforce the underlying scientific concepts of genomics. \nDNA Sequencers:  Learn about the powerful machines that read and analyze DNA sequences. Discover how they help us understand genomes and contribute to groundbreaking research \nRobots:  Think you can race a robot? See if you can process 400 samples per minute with precision and efficiency. \nData Centre:  Get a behind the scenes look at the windy and chilled data centre. This room houses thousands of computers that store vast amounts of genetic data. SUMMARY:Vancouver Aquarium - Self-Guided Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:The Vancouver Aquarium no longer offers educational programs for schools\, however\, we are able to explore the Aquarium on our own as a “school group” with student and group rates.\n\n\n  \n\nWhen: Friday\, January 23 10:30 – 10:15 am arrive and gather outside the main entrance for a head count so that we are ready for our entry time of 10:30 am. \nSign-up deadline: Wednesday\, January 21st by 3:00 pm. \n\n\nMaximum participants – 50\n\n\nAdditional participants will be put on a waitlist\, as we may be able to increase our group size. \n\n\nGrade level: All students in Grades K – 12 and their parents/guardians\n\nWhere: Vancouver Aquarium\n\nCost:\n\n\n$15 for all school-age participants\n$25 per adult\n\n\n\n\nAdult Leaders\, Attendants and Chaperones \n\nParents/Guardians are expected to guide and remain with their children throughout their visit to the Aquarium.\nParents/Guardians are responsible for their children’s safety and behaviour.\nPlease review TLA’s Field Trip Policy and share the expectations with your children.\n\n\n\nContact Person/Information: Mrs. Maureen Krump\, mkrump@schoolathome.ca\, 1-800-745-1320 ext 354
