DESCRIPTION:We are excited to offer a unique educational opportunity: a marine biology trip to Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii and Oahu! This trip is designed to immerse students in the rich marine ecosystems of Hawaii\, providing hands-on experiences that will deepen their understanding of marine biology and conservation. \nTrip Details:\n\nDestinations: Kona (Big Island of Hawaii) and Oahu\nDates: April 14th – April 22nd\, 2025\nEligibility: Open to all students interested in marine biology\nCost: Approximately $3200. \n\nHighlights of the Trip:\nKona (Big Island of Hawaii):\n\nSnorkeling at Kealakekua Bay: Explore one of Hawaii’s premier snorkeling spots\, home to vibrant coral reefs\, tropical fish\, and the historic Captain Cook Monument.\nFriends of Pana’ewa Zoo: Opportunity to observe animals up close and learn about their habitats\, behaviors\, diets\, and conservation statuses.\nAkaka Falls Hike Discover the dynamic geological features of the Big Island\n\nOahu:\n\nHanauma Bay Nature Preserve: Snorkel in this iconic bay\, renowned for its crystal-clear waters and diverse marine life.\nWaikiki Aquarium and University of Hawaii Marine Biology Labs: Engage in educational tours and workshops with marine biologists and researchers.\nPearl Harbor Visit: Learn about the historical significance of Pearl Harbor and its connection to marine environments.\n\nBenefits of Participation:\n\nHands-On Learning: Apply classroom knowledge to real-world marine environments\, enhancing understanding and retention of key concepts.\nExpert Guidance: Learn from experienced marine biologists and educators who will provide in-depth insights into marine ecosystems and conservation efforts.\nConservation Activities: Participate in beach cleanups and reef restoration projects\, contributing to the preservation of Hawaii’s natural beauty.\nCultural Immersion: Experience Hawaiian culture through traditional activities\, historical site visits\, and interactions with local communities.\nPersonal Growth: Develop skills in teamwork\, critical thinking\, and environmental stewardship\, while creating lasting memories and friendships.\n\nCredits \nYou will receive 4 units of high school credit\,  you will be completing the Life Science 11 course. The program will be adapted to focus on the experiences that you will have in Hawaii.  To receive this credit\, you will need to complete the online course prior to departing and then complete hands-on tasks while on the trip.  \nHow to Apply: \nInterested students should submit this Interest Form and attend an information session that will happen in the middle of September.  \nThis trip promises to be an enriching and transformative experience for all participants.
