SUMMARY:Port of Vancouver Discovery Center Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:This is a facilitated 90 minute in-person field trip experience at the Port of Vancouver Discovery Centre. The activities in this program are focused on Gr. 4 – 6 learning outcomes. Younger students are welcome to join\, however preference will be given to families with students in Grades 4 – 6.\n\nThrough this program\, students will learn about Canada’s largest and most diversified port through activities that encourage: \n\nhands-on learning through doing\, touching\, watching\, hearing and reading\nactivities that promote reflection\, inquiry\, critical thinking and creativity\nindividual and group communication through actions\, words and pictures\n\nDesigned to build on students’ awareness of the importance of trade in our lives and the role of the Port of Vancouver in facilitating trade\, this program covers: \n\nwhat a port is\nthe five business sectors at the port\nimports\, exports and international trade\nwhat makes our port a sustainable one\n\n\nWhat to Expect\n \nPlease prepare for this field trip by reading through the Planning your trip to the Discovery Centre (pdf planning document) Students will be divided into small group to complete some of the activities.\n\n\nWhen: Wednesday\, June 7\, 2023 10:00 am – 11:30 am \n\nSign-up deadline: May 26th\, 2023\n\nWhere: Located on the waterfront at Canada Place. We will meet just inside the sliding glass doors of the Discovery Centre at the north end of the concourse in Canada Place (walk inside to the far end of the long hallway on the west side of the building). The centre is located right beside the stairs to FlyOver Canada. There is a map in the Planning Your Trip document.\n\n\n\nParking:  Entry to the Canada Place parkade is at the very north end of Howe Street in downtown Vancouver. • Tickets are obtained from the ticket dispenser or the ticket booth. • There are two parking levels. Park at the far north end of the parking lot. • Take the elevators to level G (ground level). \nCost: There is no cost for this field trip. \n\n\nContact Person/Information: Mrs. Maureen Krump\, mkrump@schoolathome.ca\, 1-800-745-1320 ext 354\n\nIMPORTANT INFORMATION: The Discovery Centre does NOT have public washrooms. Please walk inside Canada Place and then walk down the inside corridor to the Harbour Cafe where the washrooms will be unlocked. Please make sure you have enough time to stop on the way if needed (*See map of Canada Place on the last page of the planning your trip document.). Alternatively\, there are washrooms at FlyOver Canada two floors up from the Discovery Centre.
