SFU Admission Requirement Changes (Fall 2019 and Fall 2020)

Beginning Fall 2019, SFU is changing its admission requirements for high school students. The university’s current admission model, which calculates an average on only four approved grade 12 courses, has provided an inflexible and incomplete view of our students’ academic high school achievements.

Their goal is to identify high school students who demonstrate the capacity to be successful in their program of choice at SFU. The flexibility of the new admission process allows the institution to uncover potential in students who may not have risen to the surface in the more restrictive four-course evaluation model.

The new admission model will be phased in over two years; detailed information at www.sfu.ca/students/adm-req-2019-2020.html.

The grade 11 and 12 courses required for admission to some programs at SFU will continue to be quite specific, while other programs will have more flexible requirements. SFU’s new admission process values and considers all approved courses completed by a student in grade 11 and 12, and reflects their institution’s interest in encouraging a holistic approach to their students’ academic preparation for their post-secondary career.

The changes below will impact course selection for current high school students.
