In search of sun.

Dear Parents,

I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing Spring Break. I was blessed to enjoy a road trip to California with my family.

We went in search of sun, didn’t find much – in fact it was quite cold, but we had a lot of fun anyway.

When homeschooling becomes a lifestyle rather than a school day pursuit, holidays turn into extended fieldtrips and as much learning can take place at these times as in the — regular school schedule. I remember reading in a section in Malcolm Gladwell’s book — Outliers — that indicated students who come from backgrounds where parents are actively involved in their children’s education show greater gains in learning over the summer months than during the public school year. I hope this encourages you, as the days become warmer, to take that fieldtrip! It would be great to see lots of families at Barkerville in May.

It is now the time of year when many of us reflect on the year so far and start to make plans for September.

We are also accepting applications for registered homeschoolers, the K-9 DL Program and the Grad Program for the 2011-2012 year! Find all our forms on the Admissions section of this website.

Our registration and enrolment forms are ready on the website and we want to encourage as many parents as possible to register or enroll early.

Our growth has been very encouraging and we anticipate continued interest in home learning. It would help us a lot to process the forms before the end of April if possible. The Christian Home Educators Convention (CHEC) is being held April 29 & 30 in Kelowna. For more details, go to: www.bcconvention.ca. Both TLA and One Stop Learning will be there.
